NASIS Client Version 6.1.1 - SVN Rev. No. 10050

Issues Fixed in the 6.1.1 Release

The NASIS 6.1.1 release fixes some critical problems that were found in the 6.1.0 release:

  1. Spreadsheet Import: Fixes to support the import of Rapid Carbon Assessment data include correcting the import of woody basal area, allowing duplicate values and zeroes for scoop headspace measurements, allowing an apostrophe in the User Site ID, using a file name extension for VNIR data files, and preventing manually entered data from being overwritten.

  2. Local Database Initialization: When a NASIS database was initialized with the restore option, changes made by other people earlier the same day might not have been downloaded.

  3. Interpretations: When running an interpretation, the subrules (reasons) were not correctly sorted on the High-RV rating value.

  4. Copy/Paste: Copying and pasting an object with a large number of rows in a child table (such as Domain Group) was extremely slow.

  5. Pedon Import: Importing pedons was very slow.

  6. Table Editor: After inserting a new row in a child table, the keyboard focus switched to the parent row, so typing or tabbing did not happen in the new row as it should.

New Features in version 6.1.0

The following new or improved features are in the latest NASIS client.

  1. Spreadsheet Import: There is a new item on the NASIS menu called Import Excel File. If an Excel spreadsheet has been formatted to correspond with a predefined mapping, the data from the spreadsheet can be imported to the NASIS database. Initially the only mapping provided is for the Rapid Carbon Assessment project, but other mappings will be added.

  2. Offline Editing: The ability to enter data into NASIS while disconnected from the network has been improved. A new item on the NASIS menu called Prepare for Disconnected Editing will pre-load your local database with enough record IDs to allow for a week or more of field data entry (about 100 sites and pedons). This does not include importing Pedon databases or spreadsheets, which tend to require a lot more record IDs. Those should be done in the office.

  3. Run reports offline: Reports run against the national database were limited to 10 minutes of execution time. A new option to Run Offline Against National Database is available for reports that take longer than that. When a report is run offline you supply your email address and get an email back when the report is ready to be viewed. There are fewer time limits on offline reports, but it is still possible to exceed the server’s memory capacity. If that happens you can usually restructure the report to use less memory.

  4. Running multiple Calculations or Validations: You can now select more than one calculation or validation from the Explorer list. There is also a new option to “Run for All Rows in Selected Set” which will run the calculation or validation without requiring you to open a table and select rows.

  5. Using the Table Editor to view Queries, Reports and other objects: All the objects that have special editors (Queries, Reports, Interpretations and Calculations) can also be opened in a table editor, provided you first run a local query to bring these objects into the selected set. This allows you to do things like search or check out several objects at once.

  6. Enhanced text editing: In the Table Editor, text columns now have a button that opens a text editing window with new features such as spell checking and find/replace.

  7. Review object status: The Local Database Setup page now shows object status (checked out, modified, deleted) so you can get a quick look at the status of all downloaded data without having to run queries.

  8. SSURGO export file name: When running a SSURGO export you now supply your own name for the output zip file instead of one created by the system.

  9. Restore local database after initialization: When your local database has to be re-initialized (such as after upgrading to NASIS 6.1) you can choose to have the previous contents of your local database downloaded automatically, without having to run national queries again.

Work is continuing to improve and expand the capabilities of NASIS. Some software problems have been found but could not be fixed in time for this release. Click here to read these known issues. If other problems are found as you use NASIS, please contact the Soils Hotline.
